Ole Miss Walks Off Arizona State in 14th Inning, Advances in Lincoln Regional
Brayden Randle’s walk-off RBI single capped a 14-inning marathon as Ole Miss survived after bullpen arms held Arizona State to two runs in extras.
On Friday, Ole Miss defeated Arizona State 7-6 in 14 innings at Haymarket Park during the NCAA Lincoln Regional opening game, a marathon contest that lasted nearly five hours.
After Arizona State jumped to an early two-run lead, Ole Miss responded in the third inning with Will Furniss's two-run double and Tristan Bissetta's two-run homer, seizing a 5-3 advantage.
Relief pitchers Walker Hooks and Hudson Calhoun combined to keep the Sun Devils scoreless from the eighth through the 13th inning, setting the stage for Brayden Randle's walk-off RBI single in the 14th.
The victory advances Ole Miss to the winner's bracket to face Nebraska on Saturday at 7 p.m., while Arizona State drops into an elimination game against South Dakota State.
Head coach Mike Bianco urged the Rebels to channel the victory as positive energy rather than exhaustion, while infielder Brayden Randle praised "constant resilience" throughout the dugout during the marathon.
