IIT BTech placement slump: Over half institutes see 10% point drop since 2021-22, shows govt data
- In more than half of India's 23 Indian Institutes of Technology , BTech placements declined by over 10 percentage points from 2021-22 to 2023-24, according to data from the union government.
- The sharpest drop was at IIT Dharwad, where placements decreased from 90.20% in 2021-22 to 65.56% in 2023-24, a decline of around 24.64 percentage points.
- The Parliamentary Standing Committee, led by Congress MP Digvijaya Singh, reported an unusual decline in placements at IITs and suggested that the Department of Higher Education take measures to enhance employability.
- IIT Varanasi was the only exception, where placements increased from 83.15% to 88.04%, marking a rise of 4.89 percentage points.
