Oklahoma State women loaded with star transfers, picked to win the Big 12 championship
The Cowgirls earned seven first-place votes and have not won a conference title since 1991, coaches said.
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team is projected to win the Big 12 Conference this season after loading up with a top-tier transfer class. Head coach Jacie Hoyt's squad earned seven first-place votes in the preseason poll of coaches.
Two-Time All-American forward Audi Crooks joined the Cowgirls after leaving Iowa State, where she was a beloved player. Crooks grew up about 90 minutes from the Iowa State campus and averaged 25.8 points per game last season, second-best nationally.
First-Team All-SEC guard Liv McGill provides additional firepower, having been the only player nationally to average at least 20 points, six boards, and six assists last season. McGill took 591 field-goal attempts, the seventh-most in the nation.
Head coach Hoyt said Wednesday at the Big 12 media summit that this is "by far the most talented roster I've been privileged to coach." She emphasized players must embrace winning at all costs, even if sacrifices are required.
Despite winning 25 games two years ago and 24 last season, the Cowgirls have not won a conference championship since 1991. Hoyt has revitalized the program's fortunes, positioning Oklahoma State to potentially end that long-standing drought this year.
