N.C. State Fires Football Coach Dave Doeren Midway Through His 14th Season
On Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, NC State announced the firing of head coach Dave Doeren less than 24 hours after the Wolfpack's 31-28 loss at Stanford on Friday, dropping the team to 3-4 overall.
Performance issues compounded after the Wolfpack fell to 1-3 in ACC play, adding to a difficult month that included a 38-14 home defeat against Wake Forest earlier this month.
Running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, having been a member of the Wolfpack staff since 2019.
NC State could owe Doeren approximately $9.75 million in remaining base salary; athletics director Boo Corrigan said, "I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role."
In its official statement, NC State promised a "national search" for a new head coach, with the process beginning immediately to find Doeren's successor.
