Should Dodgers Worry About Shohei Ohtani's Knee? Experts Weigh In
Dave Roberts said the Dodgers will keep Shohei Ohtani on a cautious pitching schedule as he recovers from left knee irritation and stays in the lineup as a hitter.
On Saturday, Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to throw another bullpen session at Citi Field, but Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he does not expect the two-way superstar to return to the rotation by next week.
Ohtani has not pitched in a game since July 3 because of left knee irritation, though he remains in the starting lineup regularly as the Dodgers manage his return to the mound.
After throwing about 30 pitches off a mound Wednesday in Philadelphia, Ohtani continues progressing. "I think it's just to be fluid with Shohei," Roberts said, emphasizing the team's nimble approach to his recovery.
Blake Snell made a second rehab start Friday for Triple-A Oklahoma City, while closer Edwin Diaz completed back-to-back rehab appearances and Tyler Glasnow is throwing to hitters.
"I think he understands it's not about July, it's about October," Roberts said, signaling the defending World Series champions prioritize full health over an early return as they lead the West.
