UK's Ofgem probes ScottishPower over customer treatment, billing practices
The regulator will examine backbilling rules and support for customers struggling to pay their bills, while saying the probe does not imply wrongdoing.
Ofgem has opened an investigation into Scottish Power to determine whether the energy supplier complied with regulations on treating customers fairly and supporting vulnerable households.
The review focuses on the firm's support for households struggling with energy bills and its adherence to restrictions on backbilling for energy usage exceeding 12 months.
Investigators are also reviewing the firm's management of the Priority Services Register, which provides additional assistance to certain vulnerable customers.
The opening of this investigation does not imply any findings of non-compliance by ScottishPower. The company confirmed it is working with Ofgem on its customer service obligations.
Ofgem will report on its findings after all relevant evidence has been assessed, ensuring a thorough review of the firm's compliance with its license conditions.
