Off-Duty Philly Cop Arrested After Fatal Northampton County Shooting
Police say the 25-year-old officer was captured after returning to the scene, and Internal Affairs opened an administrative investigation.
On Friday, off-duty Philadelphia Police Department Officer Kenroy Cummings was taken into custody following a fatal shooting in Allen Township, with authorities confirming the 25-year-old officer as the primary suspect.
Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta stated the shooting occurred during a domestic dispute at a residence on the 1200 block of Old Gate Road, where the suspect and 27-year-old victim are related.
After fleeing in a 2023 orange Kia Forte, Cummings was spotted by Pennsylvania State Police near Race Street and Airport Road in Hanover Township; he led troopers on a brief pursuit before returning to surrender.
Baratta announced Cummings faces homicide and fleeing charges, while the Philadelphia Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau initiated an administrative investigation into the officer.
Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio reported the victim died at 2:45 p.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg; officials will withhold the victim's identity until after an autopsy scheduled for Monday.
