ODH Warns of Possible Measles Exposure at John Glenn Columbus International Airport

Six measles cases have been reported in Franklin County this month, including one linked to international travel at the airport, officials said.

  • On Feb. 18, the Ohio Department of Health warned that people at John Glenn Columbus International Airport between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. may have been exposed to measles, Director Bruce Vanderhoff announced.
  • Because the case was linked to international travel, ODH is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health officials to contact potentially exposed passengers on specific flights.
  • Since the start of the month, Columbus public health confirmed six Franklin County cases involving children ages 1–5, with five unvaccinated children and a household outbreak spanning two households.
  • Unvaccinated people potentially exposed are advised to watch for symptoms through March 11, inform their health care providers about exposure, and stay home and call if common measles symptoms develop.
  • With vaccination rates down and 2025 showing 45 measles cases in Ohio, the CDC notes one MMR dose is 93% effective, two doses 97%, and measles can linger airborne for up to two hours.
