Nvidia, SK to detail cooperation plan as Huang flags prolonged chip shortage

Jensen Huang said memory chip shortages could last for years as Nvidia and SK prepare a cooperation plan on AI, robotics and supplier alignment.

  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang arrived in Seoul on Friday for his second visit in seven months, underscoring South Korea's critical importance to the global AI boom.
  • Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix together provide about 70 per cent of the memory chips required for Nvidia's AI products, making South Korea a critical ecosystem partner.
  • The 63-year executive will appear on You Quiz, South Korea's most popular talk show, and throw the first pitch at Sunday's Doosan Bears home game against the Kiwoom Heroes.
  • Huang told reporters he wants Korean suppliers "aligned" on memory chips while prioritizing robotics, saying, "Because Korea is a manufacturing centre of the world, we can apply the robotics technology... for the industry."
  • As Nvidia seeks manufacturing partners to commercialize AI applications, Korea is emerging as an ideal testbed; Huang also said the company has started hiring for a research and development centre in the country.
