NHS Nurse Struck Off After Making Nearly £20,000 From Shifts She Never Worked
Faith Chareka logged 50 shifts she did not work and claimed £19,575.41, prompting the Nursing and Midwifery Council to strike her off.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council struck nurse Faith Chareka off the register after she fraudulently claimed nearly £20,000 for shifts she never worked at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in Surrey.
Between November 1, 2020, and February 1, 2023, Chareka added 50 unworked shifts to rotas at the trust to secure financial and personal gain through fraudulent roster manipulation.
Her dishonesty netted £19,575.41 in payments and 540 hours of time off in lieu , with most fraudulent shifts billed at enhanced rates for nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Following a 2024 fraud conviction and 18-month suspended sentence, the panel imposed an interim 18-month suspension order to cover the mandatory 28-day appeal period before the removal takes effect.
Although defense representative Alexandra Monaghan argued Chareka "demonstrated genuine remorse and insight," the panel stated her conduct "placed patients at potential risk of harm" due to understaffing and resource strain.
