DVSA Reports 47% Rise in UK Driving Test Cheating Cases

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency recorded 2,844 cases of cheating in the year to September 2025, up from 1,940 in the previous 12 months.
Amid long waits for tests, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency said it has no evidence linking cheating to waiting times, while industry figures urged caution as learners faced a 22-week average waiting time in September.
Technology-Assisted cheating made up the largest share, with 1,113 incidents, impersonators recorded in 1,084 theory and 647 practical cases, and courts handed sentences including Qounain Khan's eight-month term, Sorina-Ana Turcitu's 12-week suspended term, and Ali Rasul's two-year term.
DVSA enforcement measures include enhanced fraud detection, using intelligence to target repeat offenders, while the DVSA counter-fraud team works with police to prosecute impersonators facing prison and driving bans.
Motoring charities warned that driving test cheats are putting other road users at risk amid a backlog for practical driving tests, with some trainers saying cheats may now be driving.
