For the second time, the EU's first underground storage facility for greenhouse gases was inaugurated on Friday by King Frederik in Esbjerg.
The increasing amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is one of the biggest challenges for mitigating man-made climate change. In order to reduce it, a special project in Denmark has gone into regular operation: the storage of greenhouse gas in the sea.
For several years now, the storage of CO2 in the seabed has been tested in Denmark. Now, according to the responsible persons, the project "Greensand" is going into regular operation.
Energy group INEOS announced Friday that its carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at Greensand has begun storing carbon dioxide under the North Sea floor, under an old oil platform.
