Novo Nordisk CagriSema Linked to 25% Weight Loss in Women
Novo said the experimental injection also reduced abdominal fat, with a separate analysis showing 26.7% weight loss in premenopausal women.
- On Tuesday, Novo Nordisk announced two post hoc analyses of its REDEFINE 1 trial, showing investigational drug CagriSema was associated with 25% average weight loss among adult women at 68 weeks.
- CagriSema, a combination of semaglutide and the amylin analog cagrilintide, addresses weight gain during menopause when hormonal shifts increase abdominal fat accumulation.
- The analyses showed weight loss reached 26.7% for premenopausal, 24.8% for perimenopausal, and 23.1% for postmenopausal women, with waist circumference falling 20.5 cm versus 4.7 cm on placebo.
- Novo Nordisk described the analyses as hypothesis-generating; Dr. Maria Hurtado Andrade of Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine said further research is needed to understand reproductive aging effects on weight loss.
- A decision on CagriSema approval is expected in the fourth quarter of this year, following the New Drug Application Novo Nordisk filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in December 2025.
