Northwest Territories – Six northern Canadian airports are being tested for the presence of forever chemicals at sites where firefighting training has taken place. The chemicals, known as PFAS, are contained in firefighting foams. Testing conducted in 2023 and 2024 revealed the presence of PFAS that exceeded national guidelines, but subsequent testing at the airport in Norman Wells showed no detectable PFAS in its drinking water.
