Teenager accused of planning synagogue attack was arrested in school uniform, court hears
The 16-year-old faces accusations of preparing terror attacks linked to a banned neo-Nazi group, with police seizing weapons and extremist materials during a February raid.
- At Leeds Crown Court, Michelle Heeley KC said: `The defendant in this case is 16 years old, and he wanted to be a terrorist,` denying terror offences, membership of The Base, and sharing publications.
- At age 13 he made contact with The Base, prosecutors say, a "neo-Nazi paramilitary hate group" seeking a race war, and was told to promote the banned group and recruit members.
- Police say a February raid at his family home uncovered an arsenal, notepads, and terrorist documents, with Ms Heeley telling court `He filmed videos of himself posing in full military gear, he collected and shared videos of other terrorists committing acts of atrocity, such as killing black people, and he also kept a notebook where he expressed his rage at people, and his desire to kill`.
- The defendant denies any intention to commit terror, calling his writings `just empty words`, but the prosecution disputes this, and the case was adjourned until Wednesday.
- Prosecutors say he bought chemicals online to make explosives and discussed blowing up an electricity substation or a mobile phone mast near his home, while Ms Heeley told court he researched the Christchurch attack then looked up synagogues in the Newcastle area in December 2024.
