North Korea says new sanctions cannot block development, KCNA reports

North Korea said 100,000 workers abroad support its economy and rejected the report as an illegal attempt to block cooperation with other countries.

  • On Monday, North Korea rejected the recent report by the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team , labeling the findings as illegal fabrications that distort legitimate economic activities as illicit behavior.
  • Released last week, the MSMT report alleged that North Korea continues to deploy workers abroad in violation of Security Council resolutions, with around 100,000 workers operating in at least 17 countries.
  • The report estimated laborers, primarily in China and Russia, generated between $450 million and $800 million in 2025 to fund the country's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.
  • A North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson denounced the MSMT, a group of 11 nations, as a "plot-breeding organization" that distorts normal activities as illegal, KCNA reported.
  • The MSMT was established in October 2024 to monitor sanctions after Russia vetoed the Security Council's previous Panel of Experts mandate on Pyongyang.
