Norris says he never blames equipment if a teammate beats him
Norris said he blames himself first when beaten and praised Antonelli’s title bid as the Mercedes driver closes in on the championship.
- Ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix on Sunday, reigning Formula One champion Lando Norris admitted his title defence has been disappointing, stating he is "more than happy to pass the number 1 over" to Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
- The 20-year-old Antonelli is set to clinch the drivers' championship on Sunday, turning the tables on pre-season favourite George Russell, while Norris sits sixth and McLaren has slipped to fourth in constructors' standings.
- Rejecting excuses about equipment, Norris explained, "If my teammate beats me in a car, I've not done a good enough job," insisting drivers must adapt to new cars rather than blame technical issues.
- Mercedes driver Russell admitted feeling "bruised" by his difficult season, explaining that 2026 regulation changes have not suited his driving style. He noted, "This year there have been a lot more bad days than good days."
- If successful on Sunday, Antonelli will become Formula One's youngest world champion, surpassing Sebastian Vettel's record from 2010, and his nation's first title winner since Alberto Ascari's triumph in 1953.
