Noah Donohoe Inquest Jury to Decide Whether Police Actions Contributed to Death
The jury must decide whether police search mistakes before Noah Donohoe died more than minimally contributed to the 14-year-old’s death.
On Tuesday, the jury of eight men and two women began deliberating the inquest into 14-year-old Noah Donohoe's death, tasked with unanimously answering 10 questions including whether PSNI errors contributed to his death.
Coroner Mr Justice Kevin Rooney instructed jurors to base findings solely on six months of evidence including 76 witnesses and 42 statements, emphasizing they are "under no pressure of time."
Jurors must assess if police actions, or failures to act, "more likely than not contributed to Noah's death," reviewing search efforts from Sunday June 21, 2020, and CCTV evidence.
A post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death was drowning; Justice Rooney clarified that only police errors occurring before Noah died are relevant to the inquest findings.
Fiona Donohoe, Noah's mother, has attended every day of the proceedings and awaits the jury's verdict, which will conclude the 21st week of the inquest at the Belfast Coroner Court.
