Florida Won't Ban Fireworks Amid Drought
Officials cite 2,440 wildfires this year and say most counties have lifted burn bans after recent rains, but drought and fire risk remain.
Florida will not impose a statewide fireworks ban for July 4, 2026, but officials are urging residents to celebrate responsibly amid lingering drought conditions and active wildfire risks.
The state has recorded more than 2,440 wildfires burning over 176,000 acres this year, while 88% of Florida faced drought conditions as of June 18, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
Ten of Florida's 67 counties currently enforce burn bans prohibiting fireworks, with active wildfires burning in Sarasota, Charlotte, and Collier counties despite the state's decision.
Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson advises residents to keep a water source nearby and be prepared to act quickly if a fire starts during celebrations.
Phantom Fireworks anticipates strong sales for the nation's 250th anniversary, though Vice President William Weimer said stores will abide by local burn prohibitions if counties maintain restrictions.
