"No Bearing": Indiana Fever GM Amber Cox Addresses Sophie Cunningham's Off-Court Controversy
Cox said Cunningham remains part of offseason roster talks as the guard enters free agency after a season marked by protests and internal disputes.
On Thursday, October 1, the Las Vegas Aces defeated the Indiana Fever 94-83, eliminating the Fever from the first round as franchise leader Kelsey Mitchell enters free agency.
Mitchell led the league with 24.7 points per game in 2026 while shooting 50.9% from the field and 45.0% from three-point range, setting a WNBA record for most consecutive games scoring 20-plus points.
"I have to be selfish," Mitchell said Saturday regarding her upcoming free agency, noting she prioritizes winning and individual success after spending her entire nine-year career with Indiana.
Unrestricted free agent Sophie Cunningham also faces a decision after her one-year, $665,000 contract expired, having provided physical defense and 41.9% three-point shooting as a locker room leader.
Indiana now shifts focus to building around its young duo of Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston, aiming to contend for a fourth consecutive playoff berth in 2027 amid roster transitions.
