MLB Prospect Scouting Report On Cleveland Guardians’ Parker Messick
Parker Messick, the Guardians' 12th best prospect, earned his MLB debut after striking out 119 batters with a 3.47 ERA for Triple-A Columbus this season.
Today, Parker Messick will make his first big-league start for the Cleveland Guardians at Chase Field against Brandon Pfaadt, with first pitch at 3:40 p.m.
Drafted in 2022, Parker Messick's collegiate and minor-league results prompted his promotion after posting a 3.47 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 98 2/3 Triple-A innings.
Scouts note his tumbling low-80s changeup as a "great equalizer" inducing swings, complemented by a low-90s fastball, while he scrapped an upper-70s curveball and reshaped an upper-70s slider into a cutterish mid-80s pitch last year.
The Guardians cast the call-up as the pitching factory debuting a new arm, highlighting Messick's 2.83 ERA and 165 strikeouts last season with Akron and Lake County.
Within the system, Messick ranks third behind Guardians pitching prospects Khal Stephan and Braylon Doughty, while MLB Pipeline lists him as the Guardians' 12th-best prospect.
