Nissan Teased a New Skyline Sedan That We Bet Will Come to America with a More Familiar Name
Nissan announced a major product strategy shift, slimming global offerings from 61 to 45 models while unveiling a retro-inspired next-generation Skyline sedan featuring styling cues from historic R34 generations.
While Nissan currently designates the Skyline as a Japan-only model, the sedan is expected to arrive in the United States as the next-generation Infiniti Q50, which will utilize a V-6 engine.
Development of the R36 GT-R is underway, with Nissan confirming the successor to the R35-generation GT-R will be an all-new vehicle featuring a new chassis and hybrid powertrain utilizing the VR38 engine block.
Concrete announcements regarding the R36 GT-R timeline are expected by 2028, according to Nissan North America Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer Ponz Pandikuthira, who cited pending administration changes affecting emissions regulations.
These vehicle projects represent Nissan's focus on "delivering performance, precision and driver-focused character" across its lineup, with Chief Technical Officer Eiichi Akashi leading efforts to revitalize the automaker's global presence through innovative engineering.
