Police Scotland Confirm 9 People Were Arrested After Scottish Cup Quarter Final Disorder
Nine arrests followed violent pitch invasions and missile-throwing after Celtic's penalty shootout win, with injuries to officers and the public, Police Scotland said.
- On Sunday at Ibrox, nine people were arrested after disorder linked to the Scottish Cup quarter-final between Rangers and Celtic.
- Celtic and Rangers supporters' clashes followed a pre-match breach that delayed turnstiles at Ibrox by 24 minutes, and pyrotechnics intensified tensions before dozens of travelling Celtic supporters spilled on to the pitch.
- Missiles, including a lit flare, were thrown and some fans used stadium items as weapons; Police Scotland reported an officer struck by a bottle, a female officer kicked from behind, and a 10-year-old child hit by a coin.
- Charged suspects are due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court as police launched Operation Moonglint and urge public to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, says Chief Superintendent Croft.
- First Minister John Swinney condemned the violence as "completely and utterly unacceptable" and Stuart Murphy, chief executive of the Scottish Football Fans Association, called the scenes a "debacle" affecting decent fans.
