- On Friday, January 2, 2026, NDLEA operatives seized 31.5 kilograms of cocaine aboard the merchant vessel MV Aruna Hulya at the GDNL Terminal, Apapa Port, Lagos.
- Nigeria has long been viewed as a trafficking hub, and NDLEA said it is working with US and British anti-drug agencies probing a cartel tied to 1,000 kilograms of cocaine at the port.
- NDLEA said the 31.5kg cocaine was hidden in hatch 3 of the vessel from Marshall Islands, and named Sharma Shashi Bhushan, Master of MV Aruna Hulya, plus 21 other Indian crew members.
- Nigeria's drug agency said it arrested 22 Indian crew members, who were taken into custody for questioning at Lagos port as investigations continue; NDLEA noted prior arrests of 20 Filipino sailors in November.
- Operatives also intercepted Ketamine, Ecstasy and Tramadol pills concealed in coffee sachets and parcels bound for Zambia and the United Kingdom, while large skunk seizures occurred in Kwara State and Oyo State , plus 9,150 ampoules of Tramadol in Borno State.
