Nicolas Cage revels in being 'a Spider-Man for aging adults'
Nicolas Cage plays former superhero Ben Reilly in a 1930s noir series and says he watched old movies to shape the role.
Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly, a former superhero turned private detective, in the new 1930s-set action series 'Spider-Noir.' At 62, the actor brings a gritty, noir-inspired performance to the iconic Spider-Man role.
Spider-Noir features a unique stylistic choice, allowing viewers to watch the action-packed episodes in either color or the classic black-and-white format. This visual approach aims to capture the essence of the 1930s setting.
To prepare for his role as a gumshoe, Cage watched classic films including 'The Big Sleep' , 'Casablanca' , and 'Double Indemnity' . These movies helped him capture the era's tone and cinematic style.
Embracing the character's age, Cage stated that playing an older hero is "empowering for people of that age" to see on screen. He noted that the Spider-Noir character faces challenges while feeling his age.
Swinging around the Big Apple, the actor performs spider-like moves despite the physical demands of the role. He stated, "I'm feeling some adrenaline in it," while portraying the complex, older superhero in the new series.
