30 arrested, dozens of stolen cars seized in ‘international’ drug bust: Niagara police
Project Road King led to 213 charges and seized $760,000 in drugs and cash along with 38 stolen vehicles meant for international export, police said.
- On Tuesday, Niagara regional police executed 12 search warrants in Niagara, Hamilton and Toronto, seizing 38 stolen vehicles in the undercover Project Road King investigation.
- The investigation began in August 2024 after the gang unit uncovered an alleged drug trafficking operation and by April this year expanded into a joint probe with the RCMP and Canada Border Services Agency.
- Police say 30 suspects face 213 charges, including a 31-year-old man from Welland, Ont., who faces 42 counts, while authorities seized $260,000 in drugs, 17 long guns and three handguns.
- Officials noted the seizures' local impact, saying `Currently, the City of Hamilton remains 46 per cent above the provincial rates for overdose and opioid-related deaths,` Hamilton Police Service Deputy Chief Ryan Diodati said.
- Recovered vehicles traced to multiple Ontario regions, with several intercepted at shipping points in containers bound for Nigeria and Vietnam, police said the operation targeted drug trafficking networks.
