NIA court convicts three Kashmiri students in terror-conspiracy case
The court said the prosecution proved a complete chain of evidence linking the men to weapons, explosives and an AGH conspiracy.
- On Thursday, a special National Investigation Agency court in Mohali sentenced three students from Awantipora in Pulwama to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for conspiring to wage war against India and aiding the banned outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
- Police arrested the three students on October 10, 2018, following a raid at a hostel in Jalandhar, where they recovered an AK-series rifle, 54 live cartridges, a Mauser pistol, and nearly one kilogram of explosive material.
- Prosecution witnesses established that the students transported arms from locations near Gurdaspur and Amritsar, with Yasir, a relative of former Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind chief Zakir Musa, playing a significant role in recruiting other students into the outfit.
- Special Judge Dinesh Kumar Wadhwa convicted the three under the Unlawful Activities Act and IPC sections, while the court acquitted a fourth accused, Suhail Ahmed Bhat, after finding insufficient evidence beyond reasonable doubt.
- Zahid, Yasir, and Idris have remained in judicial custody since October 10, 2018, while the case, initially registered at Sadar police station in Jalandhar, was transferred to the National Investigation Agency for investigation.
