New Zealand parliament passes India trade deal, cutting tariffs on most exports
On Tuesday, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal announced the India-New Zealand FTA is expected to become operational in late October 2026, with a target date of October 19.
The two countries signed the FTA on April 27 to boost two-way commerce in goods and services and promote investments between India and New Zealand.
New Zealand has committed to invest USD 20 billion in India over 15 years under the bilateral agreement, strengthening economic ties between the nations.
The FTA provides duty-free access for 100 per cent of Indian exports to New Zealand, eliminating peak tariffs of up to 10 per cent on goods like ceramics and automobiles.
Both sides must complete stock-taking of operationalization processes and procedures before officials announce the exact start date for the agreement.
