Yankees’ Ben Rice — and His Dad — Heading to Home Run Derby
Ben Rice will join the 2026 Home Run Derby after a career-best season, and his father will serve as his pitcher.
New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice announced on Tuesday he will compete in the 2026 Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 13, where his father, Dan Brown, will pitch to him.
During a breakout campaign, the 27-year-old All-Star has kept the New York offense afloat while captain Aaron Judge remains sidelined with a rib injury, leading the team with 25 home runs and 57 RBIs.
Sharing a video on Instagram, Rice showcased an early practice round with Brown, a former Brown University pitcher who will throw underhand pitches during the event.
Following last year's early exit by Jazz Chisholm Jr., the All-Star joins Tampa Bay Rays slugger Junior Caminero as a confirmed participant, attempting to become the first Yankee winner since Judge in 2017.
Despite recent struggles with 13 losses in 18 games, the Yankees maintain a five-game lead for the first American League Wild Card spot, positioning the club for playoff contention.
