All of New York's goals were scored by rookies, with Gabe Perreault scoring his first hat trick after the opening goal by young Czech Jaroslav Chmelař. The long wait for the opening goal of Dallas' match against Colorado ended in the 51st minute when visiting Martin Nečas scored.
