New York GOP rep: Trump’s commutation of Santos ‘the wrong decision’
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis criticized Trump’s commutation of George Santos, citing Santos’s admitted theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars from donors and financial misconduct.
- On Sunday, President Donald Trump commuted the sentence of former GOP New York Rep. George Santos, and Santos was released last week after the commutation.
- Santos admitted to stealing from political donors and using campaign funds for personal expenses, while allegations say he defrauded voters and lied about his finances collecting unemployment benefits.
- Santos apologized, saying it was an honor to serve the constituents of the 3rd District of New York and asked for a second chance to prove himself.
- Rep. Nicole Malliotakis told CNN's "State of the Union" she thinks the commutation was the wrong decision and urged George Santos to back up his words with actions.
- A fellow New York Republican, Malliotakis, said President Donald Trump’s commutation of George Santos was wrong, citing theft and fraud allegations as reasons for intra-party disagreement.
