- License plate readers alerted officers to a Volkswagen sedan tied to the missing teen, and state police confirmed the alert was for the 15-year-old girl from Texas.
- When officers activated lights and sirens, the driver crossed the center median and eastbound lanes before crashing into a water-filled ditch; the suspect threatened to shoot officers while motioning to his waistband, but was found unarmed and arrested soon after.
- After the rescue, the girl was placed in CYFD custody and her parents were notified, while Kyle Steven Eckmann was booked into the county jail on charges including first-degree kidnapping and child abuse.
- As Eckmann was escorted to a patrol car, he ordered the girl not to speak to police, an action investigators documented at the scene.
