On Oct. 17, former Oliver CAO Wayne Anderson and Dustin Sikora were elected mayors of Oliver and Osoyoos, respectively, as both South Okanagan communities sought new leadership.
Martin Johansen stepped down after eight years in Oliver, while incumbent Sue McKortoff departed after leading Osoyoos since 2014.
Osoyoos saw 52 per cent voter turnout, while Oliver recorded 1,748 ballots cast, representing 43 per cent of eligible voters, well above the 32 per cent provincial average.
Voters in the two towns selected their new councils, choosing Dermott Hutton, Tom Szalay, Warren Brown, Vala, Bhupinder Dhaliwal, and Rick Machial in Oliver, and Frank Zandvliet, Johnny Cheong, Pat Wycherley, Launier, Sarabjit Rai, and Jim Shogren in Osoyoos.
In the mayoral races, Sikora collected 39 per cent of the vote to defeat Zachary Poturica, while Anderson narrowly defeated Aimee Grice, collecting 796 votes compared to Grice's 753.
