European Union public vulnerability database enters beta phase

  • At the beginning of 2025, ENISA introduced the European Vulnerability Database in accordance with the 2023 NIS2 Directive, aiming to enhance cybersecurity measures throughout the European Union.
  • The EUVD was created due to concerns over instability and funding uncertainties in the U.S.-backed Mitre CVE Program, prompting the EU to develop a complementary, autonomous system.
  • The database aggregates vulnerability data from EU national CSIRTs, industry researchers, existing databases including CVE, and vendor advisories, offering interconnected dashboards highlighting critical and exploited issues.
  • ENISA executive director Juhan Lepassaar highlighted a significant accomplishment with fulfilling the NIS2 Directive’s mandate related to the vulnerability database, while European Commission VP Henna Virkkunen described the establishment of the EU Vulnerability Database as an important advance in strengthening Europe’s cybersecurity and overall resilience.
  • The EUVD aims to raise cybersecurity standards and enhance digital resilience by reducing exposure to threats, enabling faster, more transparent vulnerability response and partially decentralizing global vulnerability tracking.
