New delivery robot fleet coming to Milton Keynes with Deliveroo
The electric robots will handle short-distance orders while most Deliveroo deliveries continue to be made by human riders, the company said.
- Deliveroo is launching its first autonomous delivery service in the UK this month, deploying fully electric Coco Robotics machines in London's Canary Wharf with plans to expand to four additional cities in the coming weeks.
- The robots navigate streets at 'walking pace' using onboard sensors, cameras, and AI, marking Coco's entry into the UK market after operating across the U.S. and Europe.
- Coco will share real-time pavement hazard data with BlindSquare, a navigation app for blind and partially sighted pedestrians. Founder Ilkka Pirttimaa said the technology 'delivers tangible safety improvements' for users navigating obstacles.
- Deliveroo promised 'the majority of orders will continue to be fulfilled by Deliveroo's extensive rider network,' though robots provide additional merchant capacity. Initially, service is limited to select Canary Wharf restaurants like Patty & Bun.
- Owned by DoorDash since October 2025, the delivery giant aims to leverage autonomous technology to help high street businesses remain competitive. Pilots will follow in Milton Keynes, Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees, and Nottingham.
