Meta Breaks Ground on over $1 Billion Data Center in Oklahoma's Tulsa
The project is expected to create more than 1,000 construction jobs and about 100 permanent jobs, Meta said.
On Tuesday, Meta Platforms officially broke ground on Project Anthem in east Tulsa, Oklahoma, marking the company's 28th U.S. data center and first in the state.
This development represents a key step in Meta's $600 billion commitment to U.S. infrastructure over three years, designed to power the company's expanding artificial intelligence and Superintelligence push.
Spanning more than 2 million square feet, Project Anthem will support more than 1,000 construction jobs at peak activity and about 100 operational positions, backed by Meta's $25 million investment in local infrastructure improvements.
Protesters from Stop Data Center Colonialism demonstrated Tuesday against potential impacts, while Meta claimed the site will "be matched with 100% clean energy" and committed to the White House's Ratepayer Protection Pledge.
Meta aims to accelerate data center construction during the current administration, recognizing that favorable AI regulations may shift under future leadership, while facing ongoing community scrutiny over long-term water and power impacts.
