What 'Variety' Reports About Dan Lin Out as Netflix Film Chief
The move follows 1,000 layoffs and a broader reshuffling of film leadership as Netflix seeks to reverse engagement problems and stock stagnation.
Netflix Film Chief Dan Lin was dismissed over the weekend as part of a major creative restructuring at the streamer, sources tell Variety.
The leadership change follows Netflix's dismissal of roughly 1,000 employees last week, about 6 per cent of its ranks, amid stock price decline exceeding 40% in 2026.
Hired in 2024 to replace Scott Stuber, Lin implemented a genre-based strategy and resisted theatrical-first releases, producing hits including "The Rip" and "War Machine."
Netflix replaced Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria on Thursday with Fox and Disney veteran Peter Rice, who will focus on "creating big, buzzy hits," Sarandos wrote.
Wall Street remains concerned as Netflix's television viewing share declined against YouTube, with the company needing to prove slower engagement does not impair revenue growth.
