Netflix Eliminates About 1,000 Jobs in Biggest Cuts Since 2022
The layoffs affect product, tech, legal and human-resources teams as Netflix faces slower growth and stronger competition for viewers.
On Wednesday, Netflix Inc. announced it is cutting 6% of its global staff, or about 1,000 positions, marking the streaming giant's largest round of layoffs since 2022, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Co-Chief Executives Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos wrote in an email to employees on Wednesday that the company is struggling with slowing growth, prompting the workforce reduction.
Product, tech, legal, and human-resources teams will bear the bulk of the cuts at Netflix, which employed about 16,000 full-time staff at the end of last year.
These layoffs occur as Netflix faces intense competition in a consolidated media market, having lost a bidding war against Paramount Skydance for Warner Bros Discovery assets earlier this year.
Expanding beyond its core subscription business, Netflix is investing in advertising, live programming, and gaming to diversify revenue streams in the increasingly consolidated media landscape.
The United States Netflix Inc., the world's largest subscription stream video service, reduces about 1,000 jobs, representing about 6% of the company's workforce.
