Netflix debuts new 'Playground' gaming app for kids

  • On Monday, April 6, 2026, Netflix launched Netflix Playground, a standalone app for children ages 8 and under featuring games based on Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, and other popular characters.
  • The service prioritizes a secure environment with no ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees; games support offline play without Wi-Fi, making the app ideal for travel or situations requiring screen time without connectivity.
  • "We're building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters," said John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series and Kids TV.
  • Emarketer senior analyst Ross Benes noted the move helps Netflix "compete in the one area where it has a deficiency compared to Disney+, which is children's programming," while deepening family engagement.
  • While currently available in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Philippines, and New Zealand, Netflix will launch globally on April 28, with additional titles arriving throughout the year.
