Nestlé to 'Gradually Close' Solon Factory, Move Production to South Carolina, Spokesperson Says
Nestlé says hundreds of workers could be affected as it moves production to its Gaffney site and offers separation benefits and transition support.
On Monday, October 19, Nestlé USA announced plans to gradually close its Solon, Ohio, factory by the end of 2027, shifting production to its facility in Gaffney, South Carolina.
Executives recently expressed dissatisfaction with North American performance, as CFO Anna Manz stated 'more needs to be done' to improve regional execution, with Gerber identified as 'underperforming'.
Although the broader Solon campus remains operational, the factory closure affects hundreds of workers; Nestlé maintains nearly 3,000 employees across seven facilities statewide, offering transition support to impacted staff.
Solon Mayor Edward Kraus called the decision 'difficult news' for the community, pledging to collaborate with regional partners to connect affected workers with job placement services.
Food manufacturers across the U.S. are actively closing facilities to improve network efficiency and align supply with consumer demand, with PepsiCo, Tyson Foods, JBS, Danone, and Mars announcing similar closures this year.
