Nelly Korda clinches LPGA player of the year and moves closer to LPGA Hall of Fame
Korda’s four wins, including two majors, left her mathematically out of reach with three tournaments remaining.
On Tuesday, Nelly Korda clinched the LPGA Player of the Year award, her second such honor in three years following a dominant season with four victories, including two majors.
Korda secured the honor after Haeran Ryu of South Korea withdrew from competition last week in Malaysia due to injury, while rivals Miyu Yamashita of Japan and Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand did not enter next week's tournament in Florida.
The 28-year-old American now sits one victory away from qualifying for the LPGA Hall. This Player of the Year title earned her 26 points, one short of the threshold required for induction.
Korda plans to compete in the final two tournaments of the season—The Annika and the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida—where either victory would secure the final point needed for induction.
While Korda nears the milestone, she would not be the youngest player to qualify for the LPGA Hall. Inbee Park reached the requirements when she was 27.
