‘Chaos, Crying, Screaming’: Neighbor Sees Prom-Clad Teens Flee Party After Reported Shooting
Police said multiple shooters were involved and all four gunshot victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, May 9, 2026, a shooting and vehicle-related incident occurred at a post-prom party at VFW Post 3734 on Airline Road in Fruitport Township. Fruitport Township Police Department officers responded around 11:50 p.m.
Muskegon Area Public Schools Superintendent Matthew Cortez confirmed the event was not school-sponsored, though students from Muskegon High School and neighboring areas attended the gathering at the rented hall.
Emergency responders transported four shooting victims and two individuals struck by vehicles to Trinity Health Hospital; one person remains in critical condition while five others face non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate multiple shooters, though Fruitport Township Police Department officers have not yet announced any arrests. Authorities continue reviewing video evidence and interviewing witnesses.
