Nearly 30,000 Pounds of Raw Beef Recalled By USDA in 2 States
The USDA classifies the recall as a Class I health hazard after the beef entered the country without required inspection, officials said.
- On August 7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that Aventura, Florida-based importer Corte Argentino USA LLC is recalling approximately 29,628 pounds of raw beef imported from Argentina.
- The beef entered the United States without required import reinspection, prompting the recall for products distributed to retailers and distributors in Florida and Texas.
- Classified as a Class I recall, the products involve various-weight boxes from Frigorifico Gorina SAIC and pose a "reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," according to the USDA.
- FSIS is concerned that some product may remain in consumers' refrigerators and freezers; "Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them."
- Despite the health hazard classification, federal officials have not confirmed any reports of illnesses or injuries; consumers with food safety questions can contact the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline.
