NCL Cuts Ribbon on Biggest Private Island Upgrade Yet

The nearly 6-acre park adds 19 waterslides, an 800-foot river and cliff jumps as Norwegian Cruise Line expands its private-island offering.

  • Norwegian Cruise Line officially unveiled Great Tides Waterpark at Great Stirrup Cay in The Bahamas with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Norwegian Getaway brought guests to the private island for the exclusive preview ahead of the September 4 opening.
  • First announced in July 2025, Great Tides Waterpark represents a significant transformation of Great Stirrup Cay. Norwegian Cruise Line leadership confirmed the September 2026 opening earlier this year, marking the culmination of a year-long development project.
  • The nearly 6-acre park features 19 waterslides, including the 170-foot Tidal Tower and an over 800-foot Wandering River. Additional amenities include Cliffside Cove with 10- and 15-foot jumps and the kid-friendly Splash Cay.
  • Carrying 3,565 passengers, Norwegian Luna arrives on September 4 at 10:00 a.m. to bring the first guests to Great Tides Waterpark. Visitors must purchase a separately required day pass for entry.
  • Beyond the new waterpark, Norwegian Cruise Line built a dual-berth pier at Great Stirrup Cay to replace tender boats. The island also features new dining options, including three food trucks and the Floataway swim-up bar.
