NBA to open season with 125 international players on rosters. France, Canada lead the way
France leads all countries with 17 players as every NBA roster includes at least one international player, underscoring the league’s global reach.
- The NBA season opens with 125 international players from 43 countries on rosters. France leads with 17 players, while Canada follows with 16, ending its 12-year streak as the league's top international contributor.
- Canada had boasted the largest international presence for 12 consecutive seasons before this year's drop of nine players. The country's roster count decreased further on Monday when the Dallas Mavericks waived forward Dwight Powell.
- Within the current Canadian contingent, RJ Barrett remains the sole Canadian on the Toronto Raptors. Three teams—Atlanta, Denver, and Memphis—each feature two Canadian players on their opening night rosters.
- Beyond the top two nations, international talent remains widespread across the league. Australia contributes nine players, followed by Germany with seven, while Nigeria and Serbia each have six players on opening rosters.
- Despite a slight decline in numbers, the 125 international players represent a decrease of 10 from last year. The league maintains a global footprint, with every NBA roster featuring at least one international player.
