N.B. should halt transition to new virtual-health-care provider: Opposition Tories
More than 70 nurses warn the by-appointment model could cut daily patient access as the province prepares a $26 million switch.
On Friday, New Brunswick Progressive Conservative Leader Glen Savoie urged the government to reconsider its virtual-care contract with Foundever Assistance Services Corp, warning officials are "driving at 100 miles an hour towards a wall."
The New Brunswick government previously signed a two-year, $26-million contract with Foundever to provide virtual care starting July 1, following a competitive bidding process.
More than 70 virtual-care nurses wrote to Premier Susan Holt and Health Minister John Dornan, warning that the Foundever by-appointment model may reduce daily patient service compared to the existing platform.
Describing Foundever as a "trusted health system partner" with 28 years of experience, Dornan defended the decision, though he plans to meet with the company next week to discuss concerns.
Although opposition members raised objections, Dornan confirmed Friday the transition to the Foundever platform will proceed as scheduled, moving ahead with the July 1 launch date.
