Native doctor, wife arraigned over alleged N1.09bn contract scam in Ekiti

EFCC says the couple allegedly used the funds to buy properties and businesses after claiming a DESOPADEC road contract and obtaining N1.09 billion from a complainant.

  • The commission alleged the defendants persuaded Anazia Colina Kenechukwu to fund a road construction contract they falsely claimed was awarded to them by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission .
  • Prosecutors state the couple obtained N1,098,961,500 from the complainant, using the funds to acquire Town Tavern Lounge and a four-bedroom bungalow in Ado-Ekiti, which the EFCC secured an interim forfeiture order against on May 25.
  • After the defendants pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence, Justice Abubakar Usman ordered their remand in custody pending the hearing of their bail application.
  • Justice Usman adjourned the matter until Thursday, June 11, 2026, for commencement of trial and hearing of the bail application.
