According to the auditors' institution, although actual government spending last year was higher than planned in the budget law, taking into account the applied flexibility mechanisms, their growth still met EU requirements, but fiscal pressure is expected to increase in the near future.
The National Audit Office warns that it may be difficult for Lithuania to comply with EU fiscal discipline rules as early as 2026. According to the institution, if decisions are not made on additional sustainable sources of revenue, in the future it may have to choose between defense financing and other public services.
