Stephen McCullagh to Appeal Against Sentence for Murder of Natalie McNally
McCullagh is challenging the life term after judges said a fake gaming livestream gave him a planned alibi for the killing.
Stephen McCullagh, who murdered his pregnant partner Natalie McNally in December 2022, is appealing his sentence, the Public Prosecution Service in Northern Ireland confirmed on Tuesday.
McCullagh, 36, staged a fake YouTube gaming livestream to establish an alibi during McNally's brutal murder; police experts discovered the six-hour footage was filmed four days before the killing in December 2022.
Justice Patrick Kinney sentenced McCullagh to a minimum 31-year prison term earlier this month, describing the attack as a 'brutal and frenzied' act and assessing his culpability as 'extremely high.'
The judge noted the assault caused the death of McNally and her unborn child, Dean, stating the 31-year sentence 'cannot possibly reflect the value of Natalie's life' or the family's 'grief and loss.'
Legal proceedings regarding the appeal are now underway following the sentencing; the case exemplifies premeditated violence investigated by Northern Ireland authorities.
