- Racing for second place on Lap 148, Elliott grew loose and slid up the track, colliding with Bell and sending both vehicles into the outside wall.
- The collision severely deformed the steel-and-foam SAFER barrier, forcing NASCAR officials to display a red flag with 51 laps remaining at Brooklyn, Mich.
- Both drivers walked to an ambulance for medical evaluation after the collision; Elliott stated, "I'm fine; it was totally my fault."
- William Byron led the race during the stoppage, while rookie Connor Zilisch finished last in the 37-car field ahead of next week's Pocono Raceway event.
